DONUT SL – Ultralight Rescue
DONUT SL – Safety without compromise
What is the difference between DONUT and DONUT SL?
Already recognized for their lightness and reliability, DONUT reserve parachutes reach a new milestone with the SL (Superlight) range.
Even lighter and more compact, DONUT SL reserves are designed to be the obvious choice for your Hike & Fly setup: reliable safety that discreetly disappears into your pack.
DONUT SL 90
DONUT SL 110
Designed to meet the requirements of a higher maximum take-off weight while remaining true to the Superlight philosophy, the DONUT SL 110 benefits from a specific design.
Its overall architecture combined with a square shape ensures a more efficient distribution of loads across the entire canopy, while the reinforcements have been redesigned to achieve an optimal balance between increased strength and minimal weight.
Edelrid’s R&D department was closely involved in the development of the DONUT SL 110, particularly in optimizing load distribution throughout the canopy, ensuring better force dissipation without any weight penalty.
Among all the ultra-light fabrics available to us, we selected the best compromise between weight and durability. We deliberately chose a slightly heavier fabric that offers significantly improved strength and longevity, ensuring extended service life while maintaining an exceptionally low overall weight.
The deployment pod has also been designed to enhance pilot safety, featuring a two-stage opening sequence: first, the suspension lines are released, immediately afterwards, the canopy deploys. A triangular flap along the pod handle allows the reserve to slide more smoothly against the harness fabric, facilitating and speeding up extraction.
Pilot safety relies heavily on a reserve parachute that is correctly and regularly repacked. To simplify this essential operation, the DONUT SL 110 incorporates several technical features designed to ease packing and enhance safety.
– It is first equipped with folding loops that efficiently gather the canopy panels during packing.
– The precisely dimensioned line set ensures an even distribution of loads.
– A colour-coded line layout improves clarity and allows quick, intuitive identification.
– The supplied pod is intentionally slightly larger than the minimum required volume of the reserve. This choice facilitates packing and optimizes deployment time.
Thanks to all these features, the DONUT SL 110 weighs only 1000 g and the pod just 25 g, while delivering maximum passive safety.
Designer’s words…
Designing an ultralight parachute is a discipline in its own right, where the success of the project comes down to the smallest details.
For us, beyond structural performance and the pursuit of lightness, it is essential to pay close attention to how the user perceives and uses their product.
Ergonomics and ease of packing are central concerns.
In fact, right at the top of our specifications was this simple idea:
“A child should be able to understand how to pack this parachute before they even know their multiplication tables.”
